Two additions to the Central West veterinary ranks

23 Feb 2011

Producers in the Central West Livestock Health and Pest Authority will benefit from the appointment of a two new district vets.

Greg McCann, Central West LHPA senior district vet, says they are pleased to have filled all district vet positions with the recent appointments of Dr Jillian Kelly and Dr Susan McClure.

"Jillian will commence work with the authority in March, and has been assigned to cover both the Nyngan and Coonamble districts, working 2-3 days per week from each office," Dr McCann said.

"She is originally from the Coonamble district, and brings a wealth of local knowledge and veterinary experience to the position. Jillian has a particular interest in large animal practice, and has done extension studies on cattle, sheep and horses. She has extensive large-scale cattle production experience.

"Jillian brings a passion for rural communities to her work, and has a genuine love for the central west of NSW. In her work around the central west, Jillian has already formed a strong rapport with many livestock producers, which she is keen to expand upon in her new role as district vet."

Dr Susan McClure has also joined the authority as a district vet on a part time basis.

"Susan has had 20 years experience as a research veterinarian working for the CSIRO, and her main role within the Central West LHPA will be research," said Dr McCann.

"She will play an integral role in the flow of information resulting from research to the field staff which will allow landholders to be up to date with the latest information. Susan is enthusiastically looking forward to being part of this information stream.

"Susan, being employed on a part time basis also gives the authority the advantage of reserve capacity if ever required and to assist in situations where rapid response is required."

Susan and Jillian join the current vets at the Central West LHPA, with Dr Greg McCann as senior district vet (Dubbo), Dr Alan Taylor district vet (Molong) and Dr Evelyn Walker district veterinarian (Dubbo).

"We look forward to working with Jillian and Susan and introducing them to staff and producers across the district."
