Small Farms Expo
A wealth of information will be available for small area landholders in the New England region at the upcoming Small Farms Expo in Armidale.
To be held this Sunday 13 September, the expo will provide small area landholders with practical information on livestock health, pest control, fire management, weed identification and control, and natural resource management.
Steve Eastwood, senior district vet with the New England Livestock Health and Pest Authority (LHPA), says the expo is a great opportunity for hobby farmers and part-time producers to gather information specific to their enterprise.
We understand that small area landholders need to use different management techniques in operating their farms.
With this in mind, we have developed a range of seminars to provide information tailored for small landholders, on key issues such as livestock disease control, fox control and weed management, Mr Eastwood explained.
The seminars will be held from 11am to 12:30pm and will be repeated at 2pm.
Landholders will also have the opportunity to ask questions and talk directly with representatives from a range of organisations, including the New England Weeds Authority, the Rural Fire Service, TAFE Rural Skills Centre, Industry & Investment NSW (I&I NSW) and the New England LHPA.
Mr Eastwood said small area landholders make a significant contribution to agricultural output in the New England region, and this event supports that contribution.
The expo will be held from 10am to 4pm at the TAFE Rural Skills Centre at 219 Taylor Street, at the southern end of Taylor Street.
The event is organised by the New England LHPA in partnership with Southern New England Landcare and I&I NSW.
