Register now for pest field day

03 Sep 2010

Landholders looking for assistance and advice in how to control pest animals on their properties will benefit from attending the Cumberland Livestock Health and Pest Authority’s Pest and Feral Animal Information and Demonstration Day in Nowra on Friday 24 September.

To be held at the Nowra Showground from 10am, the information day will provide landholders with practical information on control methods for a range of pests including wild rabbits, foxes and wild dogs, feral goats, wild deer and feral cats, as well as related animal health and disease issues.

Cumberland LHPA ranger, Daniel Shaw says the information day is a great opportunity for landholders to learn more about pest control options on their properties and current control programs being run on the South Coast.

"This event will be an informative day for any landholders who have pest animal problems," Mr Shaw said.

"Under the Rural Lands Protection Act all landholders in NSW have an obligation to control declared pest species on their land, and this field day will provide a wealth of information on the most effective and efficient ways to do that."

Representatives from NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, Shoalhaven City Council and Boodaree National Park will be presenting information on pest and feral animal control programs in the South Coast region.

Topics to be covered include:

• Fox and wild dog control – 1080 baiting, cage and leg trapping, shooting
• Wild rabbit control – 1080 and Pindone baiting, cage and leg trapping, harbour destruction
• Feral pig control – 1080 baiting, cage trapping, shooting
