Register interest for free pest trapping school

16 Sep 2011

Rangers from the Mid Coast Livestock Health and Pest Authority are encouraging landholders interested in wild dog trapping and feral pig management to attend a free school to be held from 27 to 29 September.

The two and a half day school, to be held at McCullys Gap, is an opportunity for landholders with limited knowledge of wild dog trapping and feral pig management to learn valuable skills and gain firsthand experience from industry professionals.

Craig Crooks, Mid Coast LHPA ranger, says events of this calibre are not offered regularly and encourages landholders to make the most of the unique opportunity.

"This school is aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of landholders and other interested people to allow for greater control activities of wild dogs and feral pigs," he said.

"Landholders may wish to bring their own traps for advice on set-up and maintenance. Those attending the school can then take the practical skills and techniques they learn and implement them on their own property, which will lead to direct benefits in pest control.

"All costs, including accommodation, material and food are covered, which is extra incentive for landholders to get involved."

Firearms or dogs are not permitted at the school under any circumstances.

A 1080 and Pindone accreditation training course will also be held if numbers warrant. The cost of the course is $44 per person.

An itinerary will be forwarded to all participants along with other details, such as directions to the sites, as soon as numbers are finalised.

For more information on the school or to register your interest, contact Scone ranger Craig Crooks on 0429 342 995 or Singleton ranger Ross Garland on 0428 686 091.
