Polls across all LHPAs following strong nominations

Director elections will be held in each of the state’s 14 Livestock Health and Pest Authorities following a strong response to the call for nominations over recent weeks.

165 nominations were received from across the state for 90 director positions with the polling date scheduled on Friday 19 June.

Chairman of the Livestock Health and Pest Authorities State Management Council, David Lister, said it was a pleasing figure and demonstrated a great deal of confidence in the organisation and the vital role it plays in safeguarding agriculture in NSW.

“Although there has been a great deal of public comment recently it is encouraging to see so many landholders putting their hand up to help guide the authorities in how animal health and pest animal risks are managed across the state.

“These men and women have been nominated to play an active part in shaping the future direction of the organisation and I hope all landholders will exercise their democratic right and vote in these elections.

“We are getting on with the job and providing a stronger focus on our core functions of animal health, pest animal and insect control, managing stock movement and identification and assisting with natural disaster relief.

“I look forward to working with our new directors and continuing the great work of our former and interim directors,” David Lister said.

Voting will be conducted by postal ballot and ballot forms will be mailed to ratepayers who are on the electoral role.

Electoral roles will close on Friday 29 May and all landholders are encouraged to contact their local Livestock Health and Pest Authority office to ensure all their details are up-to-date.

Elected directors will take office on Monday 1 July.
