Locust information meetings in Cowra area next week

29 Sep 2010

Rangers in the Tablelands Livestock Health and Pest Authority are encouraging landholders to attend locust information meetings being held in the authority next week.

A meeting will be held in Billimari next Tuesday 5 October at 10am, followed by a meeting in Woodstock at 2pm.

Tablelands LHPA senior ranger Mark McGaw says that the meetings will assist local producers in preparing for possible locust activity in the region.

"Generally locust activity in the Tablelands LHPA would be in the Cowra area but landholders in all areas should keep looking for signs of locust activity and report any sightings to the LHPA," Mr McGaw said.

"At these meetings, rangers will provide information on expected hatching dates, what insecticides and equipment are available and the optimal time to apply chemical.

"Landholders will also be given very clear information about what they should be looking for on their properties so they can report any activity to their local LHPA."

Mr McGaw said that during the locust situation, landholders will need to work closely with their local rangers and these meetings are a good opportunity to meet rangers and discuss local issues.

Details of meeting times and locations in the Tableland LHPA are:

Billimari Hall – Tuesday 5 October, 10am
Woodstock Bowling Club – Tuesday 5 October, 2pm
