LHPA seeks input on livestock health planning
The North Coast Livestock Health and Pest Authority is actively seeking the input of the community on livestock health plans for the authority.
Matt Ball, North Coast LHPA senior district vet, says the North Coast LHPA is keen to hear the views of the community on planned livestock health programs.
"Within our livestock health plans there are currently 29 animal health programs, which are designed to manage risks in five key areas – market access, livestock production, human health, animal welfare and the environment," Mr Ball said.
"They cover a range of local, state and national programs including surveillance, worms, ovine brucellosis, footrot, liver fluke and emergency disease preparedness and farm biosecurity to name a few.
"While the authority’s livestock health plans are reviewed by representatives of the community, through the North Coast LHPA directors, we are also interested to gather the views of individual members of the community.
"We are particularly interested in whether the community considers there are initiatives where we could deliver benefits to a wide group of livestock producers."
Forward your suggestions to Matthew Ball by email to matthew.ball@lhpa.org.au, or in writing to PO Box 16 Lismore, by 27 May 2011.
Suggestions will be considered by the North Coast LHPA animal health subcommitte which comprises four directors. The committee is seeking suggestions that are consistent with the legislated functions of the LHPA, and would be achievable with resources and current commitments.
