LHPA helping with livestock in flood areas

Landholders affected by floods in the Bourke and Brewarrina districts are urged to contact the Darling Livestock Health and Pest Authority for stock-related assistance.

Producers needing help or advice on stock surveillance or movement, assessing damage or access to fodder should contact the local LHPA office.

Colin Betts, Senior Ranger with the Darling LHPA, said LHPA staff are liaising with Industry & Investment NSW and the State Emergency Service to direct resources to where they are most needed.

‘We are working with individual landholders to help them prioritise what needs to be done on flood-affected land,’ Mr Betts said.

‘This helps us coordinate assistance, whether it is on-the-ground help, fodder drops, stock surveillance and assessments or assistance with accessing natural disaster financial assistance.’

Mr Betts also urged landholders to report flood damage or losses so they can be assessed quickly.

‘Where people have lost fencing, stock or plant and equipment, or suffered damage to dams or other farm infrastructure, they may be able to access financial assistance.’

For assistance with livestock related matters producers should contact Colin Betts at the Brewarrina office of the Darling LHPA on (02) 6839 2047.

To report flood damage landholders can either contact the Darling LHPA or phone the I&I NSW Emergency Hotline on 1800 814 647.
