Input sought on northern wild dog management

29 Mar 2011

Members of the community are encouraged to input into the Wild Dog Management Plan for the North Coast Livestock Health and Pest Authority area, which will be available for public comment from April 4 to April 29.

The North Coast LHPA, in consultation with Forests NSW, DECCW and landholder representatives, has produced a draft Wild Dog Management Plan which covers the entire North Coast LHPA area for the period 2011 to 2015.

Dean Chamberlain, North Coast LHPA senior ranger, says the plan forms the basis for cooperative and coordinated wild dog control programs that involves all stakeholders.

"It sets out action that will be taken by stakeholders where wild dog problems occur. These actions comply with the requirements of the relevant legislation and each stakeholder is committed to meeting their obligations," said Mr Chamberlain.

"In order to improve wild dog management it is very important that landholders contact the LHPA rangers to report wild dog activity and also participate in wild dog programs.

"Effective wild dog management can only be achieved by involvement of all stakeholders."

Mr Chamberlain said North Coast LHPA rangers are currently assisting in the planning of group wild dog programs right across the authority district and are available to attend local meetings and discuss control procedures, including the safe use of 1080 baits.

The plan is available on the North Coast LHPA website at http://www.lhpa.org.au/districts/northcoast or from North Coast LHPA offices upon request.
