Hume LHPA welcomes new district vet
Producers in the Hume Livestock Health and Pest Authority will benefit from the appointment of a new district vet.
Helen McGregor started with the Hume LHPA recently and brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to the team.
Steve Whittaker, Hume LHPA senior district vet, says Helen’s appointment is a progressive and exciting step for the authority.
"While Helen will be based at our Wagga office, she will be working across the whole of the Hume LHPA district on a range of local animal health issues.
"She has a strong interest in sheep health and production, and practical experience in commercial herd/flock animal health, local research and passing on the latest information to farmers," he said.
Helen will be particularly focusing her research efforts on projects that are of local interest and relevance.
"She has already commenced work on clarifying the problem of penile infection in bulls and the apparent association with reproductive loss in a number of Upper Murray herds," Mr Whittaker said.
Helen comes to the Hume LHPA from Charles Sturt University’s Veterinary School, where she lectured in large animal veterinary practice.
In the past Helen worked in mixed practice in the UK before moving to Australia and taking up a research position at the University of Sydney in 1999. While there she continued to work as a vet locum to maintain her practice skills.
Helen studied at the Glasgow University Veterinary School and holds a certificate in Sheep Health and Production from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
"We look forward to working with Helen and introducing her to staff and producers across the district," said Mr Whittaker.
