Hear the latest in lamb production
Landholders interested in hearing the latest on lamb production and management will benefit from attending the Tablelands Livestock Health and Pest Authority’s information night on Thursday 28 October.
To be held at the Yass LHPA office from 7.30pm (BBQ at 6.30pm), the evening will provide landholders with information on a range of lamb, weaner and sheep topics, with a focus on seasonal influences.
Tablelands LHPA district vet, Jim McDonald, says the night is a free event for all landholders and one not to be missed.
"With such a good season at foot, producers will be trying to maximise returns from lambs and weaners, and we hope this evening can equip them with the knowledge to do so," he said.
Mr McDonald will present on the main issues facing lamb producers in the central and southern tablelands over the coming summer.
"The risk of pulpy kidney in lambs fed with lucerne or fodder crops such as brassica can be a problem if not managed properly via vaccination and provision of hay or dry feeds.
"If conditions stay wet, worms on pasture may have a severe impact on weaner growth and survival. With this in mind, we’ve organised for an animal health representative to talk about the new sheep drench Zolvix," said Mr McDonald.
The evening will also feature topics such as:
- lamb feedlotting and finishing
- marketing options for spring and summer
- proposal for a regional saleyard at Yass
- lamb and weaner nutrition
- sheep NLIS and property to property transfers.
The evening will be held at the Yass LHPA office at 13 Mitchell Street. RSVP is by Monday 25 October to assist with catering.
