Grafton district to benefit from international vet skills
Landholders within the Grafton district should benefit from the appointment of David Thomson as the district vet based in Grafton with the North Coast Livestock Health and Pest Authority.
Brian McInnes, North Coast LHPA general manager, said David, who started duties with the authority today, has unique veterinary experience gained from positions within Australia and overseas.
"David has extensive experience in livestock health and biosecurity, recently working as an Animal Health Specialist in Papua New Guinea," he said.
"When in PNG he was responsible for the Secretariat of the Pacific Community Animal Health and Production Programs in the Melanesia sub-region.
"Previous positions have included Regional Veterinary Officer for the Papua New Guinea National Agriculture Quarantine and Inspection Authority; Livestock Export Veterinarian in the Northern Territory; Senior Veterinary Officer (AQIS) in Canberra; along with private veterinary practice experience.
"David replaces Keith Newby who retired recently and supplements our existing veterinary team consisting of Matt Ball in Lismore and Phil Kemsley in Casino.
"The North Coast LHPA team welcomes David and looks forward to working with him and introducing him to producers across the district."
