1080 and Pindone courses in demand in Central North LHPA

24 Aug 2010

The Central North Livestock Health and Pest Authority will be running more 1080 and Pindone training courses in the area following high demand from local landholders.

The new shorter course, which only takes three hours to complete and allows participants to use 1080 and Pindone baits on their properties, has been very popular with landholders in the Central North LHPA.

Central North LHPA senior ranger, Andrew Mulligan says that so far 17 courses have been run across the authority, with a total of 206 landholders participating in the training.

"The 1080 and Pindone courses have been very well received, with our specialist pest animal staff catering for all types of landholders," Mr Mulligan said.

"As well as running weekday courses for local producers, we conducted some of these courses on weekends to cater for absentee landholders and landholders that work outside the farm.

"We’re aiming to ensure that all responsible landholders looking to control pest animals on their properties have access to 1080 and Pindone bait products."

The next course will be held in Mudgee on Friday 17 September, at the CRT on Sydney Road, commencing at 10am. Anyone interested in attending this course should contact Andrew Mulligan at the Mudgee LHPA office to book in.

Mr Mulligan says that Central North LHPA ratepayers will receive a 50% discount on the standard $44 course. At just $22 and three hours, this represents significant cost and time savings on the alternative AQF3 course.

The new training course covers topics such as baiting techniques, toxicity, storage, transport, legislation and OH&S. Those completing the course are issued a certification card and will remain accredited to use 1080 and Pindone for five years.

Further courses will be run across the authority whenever there are sufficient numbers of participants, so all landholders are asked to register their interest with their local Central North LHPA office.
